GAIA Runs Volunteer Drives to Counter COVID-19 Wave

by Hariz Yahya

During the second wave in Brunei that begun in August 2021, there was an introduction of the nationwide Quarantine Order (QO). Individuals who are primary or secondary contact were instructed to stay at home for two weeks.

Over the months, there were more than thousands of individuals who were under QO. As a non-profit organisation, the Global Awareness and Impact Alliance (GAIA) came in to independently recruit volunteers from different backgrounds. As many as 100 volunteers signed up to the effor to help curb the pandemic and make Brunei a safe country again.

The GAIA Volunteers were then deployed to assist Sukarelawan Belia in Belait District for more than three months since late August 2021. They have been tirelessly assisting in administrative tasks, packaging of items and deployment of items to recipients. Overall, they have helped people who were isolated at home under the QO.

We at GAIA would also like to take this opportunity to express our gratitude to the valuable individuals who had extended their continuous contribution their effort and time, and risking themselves out there to support those are in need during these testing times.

Thank you our front-liners, our heroes.
