Protecting our Marine Environment with SEEDS Foundation, Sabah
On 13 March 2021, Dr. Asyura Salleh participated on a panel to discuss ways to protect the maritime environment in the South China Sea with the SEEDS Foundation.
Held on Zoom, the talk began with a welcoming talk by Dr. Asri, followed by an opening talk by Dr. Asyura. The panel then heard from Datuk Pang Yuk Ming, Sabah’s former Assistant Minister for Culture & Tourism and Shantini Guna Rajan, the Marine Policy Manager at WWF.
Unlike most discussions that focused on the geopolitical competition taking place in the South China Sea, moderator Dr. Arnold Puyok guided a conversation that looked into the environmental destruction of the marine environment and ways in which we can better foster a greater stakeholder approach towards preserving the sea. It was agreed that it is key to develop a greater sense of responsibility and accountability in fostering sustainable fishing practices and carefully management of our seas.
The discussion was also conducted live on Facebook and Youtube, which reached many viewers. A recording of the discussion can be viewed here:
