Camp Wira 2019
In ensuring a sustainable future, GAIA believes in investing in the youths of today. We understand that young people can be paralyzed by self-limiting beliefs - where they feel less talented or less capable than others. We also understand that not all youths are afforded the same and equal privileges to fulfill their true potential. Thereby, in collaboration with Projek Bina Ukhwah (PBU), Dr. Asyura Salleh and Mohammed Naveed Khan organised Wira Camp - a weekend camp aimed at helping disadvantaged youths realise their strengths and capabilities, confront and challenge preconceived notions about themselves, and direct and focus their energy towards what matters most in their lives.
Twenty-nine participants, aged between 14 and 21, came together at Sungai Kebun Sports Complex from all walks of life from the 6th to 8th September 2019. All participants endured a range of activities that not only tested their physical endurance and grit, but also encouraged self-examination into their emotional and mental barriers. Ultimately, we at GAIA want to help these youths engage in deeper reflection about their hopes and aspirations for a successful future but also recognise the sacrifices made by their respective families and guardians in bringing them up.
Breaking limits is the core of Camp Wira. We at GAIA want to get the youths of today to begin exploring and interrogating their perceived weaknesses and transform them into strengths. In doing so, they can come out of this experience with a rejuvenated and empowering view of themselves and their ability to generate change.
