Beach Clean Up 2021

GAIA kick started its ‘GenGAIA Meet Up’ activity with a small beach cleanup on 28th February 2021 at Berakas Beach. ‘GenGAIA Meet Up’ is GAIA’s initiative in providing opportunities for our youth to participate in several extra-curricular activities building lifelong connections amongst each other and other NGOs. This initiative complements GAIA three phase programs in fostering youth empowerment running in parallel with Wira Camp, GAIA YLS and GAIA Mentorship Program throughout the year.

Pack Up & Pick Up! During the Beach Clean Up, our GAIA Youth worked tirelessly picking up trash left behind and was able to collect a few bags worth of non-biodegradable items such as plastic bottles, cans, cigarette butts and baby diapers that would otherwise harm our local ocean life. The activity aims to promote a sense of self-awareness in cleaning up after ourselves to preserve the beauty of our public and natural spaces.

We would also like to take this opportunity to remind beach goers to be more mindful towards other and properly dispose their trash to the appropriate bins.
